More excellent way
“And God indeed hath set some in the church; first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly doctors: after that miracles: then the graces of healings, helps, governments, kinds of tongues, interpretations of speeches. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all doctors? Are all workers of miracles? Have all the grace of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But be zealous for the better gifts. And I shew unto you yet a more excellent way. “
1 Corinthians 12.28-31
For who are God’s gifts? Should we seek them? What is more important than gifts?
God’s gifts are for all people in the church. Everyone can have a gift. If you didn’t have yet a contact with Charismatic Renewal, you probably haven’t heard about most of those gifts. Do not worry, though. God has a lot of different gifts, something for everyone.
What is the most important, He expects you to seek those gifts. Well, maybe nobody told you this so far, but it is a fact. Those gifts are necessary for our life, both spiritual and physical. Without them, we are not efficient enough because we were designed for using them.
So, God is expecting you to seek better and stronger gifts, for both spiritual and physical needs. And here is the promise. If you do so, God will show you a more excellent way! But first, you have to seek those gifts. In other words, more excellent way may not possible with those gifts! If you read the Bible, you know, that right after that saint Paul is talking about Love. And without a doubt that is the more excellent way. But take heed that saint Paul gave them one condition – they have to look after better gifts first. So before your love will become perfect you must first perfect your gifts! They are really necessary!
