“And when his disciples, James and John, had seen this, they said: Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?
And turning, he rebuked them, saying: you know not of what spirit you are.
The Son of man came not to destroy souls, but to save. And they went into another town.”
Luke 9.54-56

Jesus came to save!

Very often people say: “God punished him/her”, when something bad happened to somebody. Is this really so?

From the above scripture, and many others, we can learn that God actually wants to save people. Not to destroy. So, why bad things happen? Well, the one that wants to destroy us, especially those, who are in a close relationship with God, is devil himself.

God the Father sent Jesus to Earth, so all people can be saved. God is not responsible for deaths of people. You could even notice, that bad people live longer, despite their iniquity. It is so, because God wants them to repent and be saved.

There is although, some sort of punishment, which God implements for those, who are in a covenant with him. God does it in the same way, as parent raising his children. It is not to destroy(kill), but to teach us something, and help us grow or repent if necessary. All this is done out of love and not out wrath.

There is a time coming though, when God will judge and punish all wicked people. It will happen after their death. Everyone will answer for his crimes and sins, eventually.
