SC Daily Meditations

“And she had a sister called Mary. who, sitting also at the Lord's feet, heard his word.
But Martha was busy about much serving. Who stood and said: Lord, hast thou no care that my sister hath left me alone to serve? Speak to her therefore, that she help me.
And the Lord answering, said to her: Martha, Martha, thou art careful and art troubled about many things:
But one thing is necessary. Mary hath chosen the best part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10.39-42

Work or Listen?

What is better? Listening to God's word or working for Him very hard?

From the above passage, we can have some understanding of what really is important. Some of us would be very busy working for God. Religious people or parishioners helping in day to day duties, may spend most of they time working very hard for the Lord. We all understand that work has to be done and there are lots of things that are urgent.

However, Jesus is expecting from us something different. First of all, He wants us to be with him, listing to his word. So before you start your very hectic day, bow down and spend time with Jesus. Your work will not be worth much in the eyes of God, if you do it instead of a prayer or time to meditate in Holy Scriptures.

You should escape not into work, as it will give you only weariness. Your time with God will give you the strength for the rest of the day and will help you to succeed. And what is the most important, that is what He wants.
