Follower of God

Eph 4:32-5.2  "And be ye kind one to another: merciful, forgiving one another, even as God hath forgiven you in Christ.
Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children:
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odour of sweetness. "

Quite often in our life, we want to follow other people. As children we first follow our parents, then we follow some “friends” around us, and finally, we may follow some raw models, which we choose, according to our goals and values, but as true children of God, we should follow only one person, God himself.

We do not follow God to become his children; we follow him because we are his children. We have become children of God by his grace given to us through and in Christ, through his sacrifice and suffering. Therefore, we become members of God's family by power and grace of God. We did not earn it; we did not purchase it; it was given freely to us. The only price that was to be paid,  was paid in full by Christ himself,  on the Cross. All we did, we said a big YES to God: "Lord I accept what you did for me on the Cross, I accept your offering for all my sins! Therefore, I'm yours for ever; I belong to your family now, thank You Lord." (You can say it right now, as a prayer, if you feel a prompting of the Holy Spirit).

So, there we are, children of the almighty God, living our earthly lives, the best we can, but is it really our best? Do we follow our Father, with the same perseverance, as we would follow other raw models? Do we put the same effort?  Even regular children, of regular parents are expected to follow a certain set of rules, which are established in that family. Much more children of God, should follow their father. And our Father's rules are very simple. Just mirror my character says the Lord. Just do what I do, simply do what Jesus would do.

You may not know about it, but God also gives us the strength needed to follow him. He gave us his Holy Spirit, who lives in those, who said yes to God, and a new nature for the same. So, say yes to God today and become his follower.
